  17.     Assuming you have a full modem (and not half a modem like an RPI
  18. modem or a controllerless modem), the chipset used has NO effect on it's
  19. compatability with any OS.  Since the Rockwell 28.8 chipsets are not RPI
  20. or controllerless or anything like that, you may want to try looking
  21. elsewhere for you're problems.

  25.     Well, USR, Multitech, Motorola, Archtec, AT&T Comspheres, Penrils,
  26. Zypcoms, Telebit Fastblazers, and many others do not use Rockwell chipset.
  27. Rockwell has quite a strong hold on the chipsets used in bargin basement
  28. modems, but if you look at mid-range or high-end modem, you'll hardly find
  29. a Rockwell chip in the bunch (Microcom DeskPorte FASTs are the only
  30. mid-ranged modems I can think of which use Rockwell chipsets, I know of no
  31. real high-end modems that use 'em).  Also, AT&T chipset based mdoems can
  32. sometimes be found in the bargin basement catagory as well.
